When I was younger I use to drive by this bridal store that had a new dress in the window every week. I would either imagine myself in the dress or the wedding that formed around it.
While I was at university in England studying a vocals degree, I was asked to perform a song for a couple getting married in the summer of 2005, which my eyes grew big immediately. From then on I booked wedding ceremonies, receptions and funerals and gained information and design ideas from every event. I knew from that moment I wanted to be a part of the wedding industry.
In the spring of 2006 I was offered a job on the South Coast of England as an assistant planner. This is really were my roots were set into ground when I started planning and designing weddings.
In 2007 the economy in England was failing fast and it was time to leave. I packed my life into a giant pink suitcase and booked an around the world ticket. Australia was one of the countries I would live in for at least 8 months, so finding a job was top priority. One day in the hostel, I heard that a job was open at the four and half star hotel on the beach, which I might add was absolutely beautiful and a perfect opportunity to carry on the job I so dearly loved. Surely enough the job was offered to me and contracts were signed.
My first day was crazy, decorating a wedding for 400 people, fabric drop ceiling treatment and a stage for a bridal party of 16. Talk about jumping in with both feet! Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday we either had Weddings, Graduations, Meetings or Private Parties that were spread out in various parts of the hotel. After one event was finished the next event was set-up, leaving myself and my staff working some days to the early hours of 7am.
Everyday I was working with brides planning and booking every detail down to the colour of her shoes, which brings me to my most memorable wedding in Australia. A couple that got married by the pool garden under twinkle light trees and rose petal paths followed by one of the most entertaining receptions I have planned so far. The bride was Irish with bright green shoes and the groom was Australian so you could just imagine the party that took place
